AARP Florida is proud to recognize Central Florida volunteer Karen Civitate, who was awarded a 2026 Chapter & REA (Retired Educators Association) Unit, Community Service Award. This award, presented by AARP CEO Dr. Myechia Minter-Jordan, honors volunteers who make profound and lasting impacts in their communities.
Civitate is a volunteer leader in Brevard County, where she plays a key role in advancing community outreach, engagement, and fraud prevention efforts across the area. As an AARP Orlando Volunteer Lead, Karen supports local events, mentors fellow volunteers, and ensures AARP’s presence is strong and impactful across the region. She has led over 100+ educational fraud presentations across Central Florida, helping older adults and families recognize scams and protect themselves from fraud.
She is the Vice President within the AARP Palm Bay Chapter, where her work has helped strengthen AARP’s connection to the local community. Through her leadership, she has helped recruit more than 20 volunteers in Brevard County, led chapter initiatives, and expanded opportunities for outreach and engagement. Her ability to mobilize volunteers and build meaningful partnerships has been instrumental in growing AARP’s footprint in the area.
“Karen consistently goes above and beyond in her volunteer work across Central Florida,” said Yazmin Alfonso, Sr. Associate State Director of Outreach & Engagement at AARP Orlando. “This recognition is extremely well-deserved and highlights her passion for spreading AARP’s mission and solidifying our presence in Brevard County.”
