AARP Delaware Celebrates Family Caregivers During November
This November, AARP Delaware is recognizing the family caregivers who help parents, spouses, friends, and other loved ones live independently in their homes and communities.
New 2026 research shows that caregiving costs consume nearly one-third of household income on average, with the greatest pressure on caregivers with lower incomes and more complex care responsibilities.

Across Delaware, about 24 percent of adults are family caregivers, providing an estimated $1.89 billion in care to loved ones. During Family Caregiving Month, AARP Delaware will offer opportunities for caregivers to connect, find practical resources and receive recognition for all they do.
AARP Delaware will celebrate family caregiving with two special events:
Caregiver Recognition Day
WHAT: AARP volunteers—who are caregivers themselves—will share practical tips, useful tools, and helpful resources for people caring for loved ones, as well as for those receiving care.
WHEN: Sunday, November 8, immediately after the 9 AM and 11 AM services
WHERE: Faith City Church, 179 Stanton Christiana Rd., Newark, DE 19702
Screening of "Relative Control"
WHAT: This film, created by Delawarean Charlene Davis and starring Teri Polo, tells the story of a professional woman balancing work and family while caring for her aging parents. After the screening, Charlene Davis will discuss her caregiving journey and answer questions from the audience.
WHEN: Saturday, November 14, 2–4:30 PM
WHERE: Cinema Art Theater, 17701 Dartmouth Dr., Lewes, DE 19958
“If you are doing everything you can, you are doing well,” Charlene Davis said. “You have to be kind to yourself to be kind to your parents.”
Family caregivers handle tasks big and small, from preparing meals and managing medications to providing transportation, handling finances and providing personal care. AARP works to give caregivers information, tools and support while advocating for solutions that can save them time and money and help loved ones live independently.
