Legislative Updates

The Alaska Legislature convenes for 121 days from January to May each year. Each Legislature has a two-year session in which legislators, caucuses, and committees remain consistent, and bills carry over from one year to the next. The Alaska Legislature must pass a budget every year.

Each year, AARP Alaska selects three to five policies or funding priorities to guide our advocacy efforts. You can review our 2026 priorities here (or download them here). Now that the 2025-2026 session has concluded, see how these priorities translated into meaningful progress here.

More Ways to Benefit

This year, we recorded a live discussion between Advocacy Director Marge Stoneking and Communications Director Katie Severin, highlighting key wins, setbacks, and opportunities from the 2026 session. Watch it here.

Thank you to AARP Alaska’s 2026 Capitol Corps for meeting with legislators on our priorities to support family caregivers, give Alaskans the opportunity to age in place, and bolster financial security and retirement readiness.
