Summary of Publication

Today’s workers with responsibilities to provide care to ill or aging family members face unprecedented demands. These demands include pursuing a career, caring for family members, helping adult children, and preparing for retirement security—often simultaneously. However, public and private sector policies to support workers with caregiving responsibilities through family and medical leave, paid sick days, or discrimination protections have not kept up with these increasing demands.
