Active living or integrating social and physical activity into daily living, is an important aspect of a community. St. Louis City and St. Louis County residents are interested in moving and doing in their community. The series of infographics shows survey findings for biking and walking behavior, social life, transportation, physical activity, community needs and information about St. Louis residents.

Key findings include:

  • Two in three have walked, and one in four have recently ridden a bike in their community.

  • Most residents are interested in being active in outdoor, public spaces that accommodate all levels of physical fitness.

  • The top reported need in the St. Louis community that supports active living is multigenerational opportunities to interact with those in the community.

The AARP 2014 St. Louis Active Living Survey was conducted as a telephone survey among residents age 45 or older in St. Louis County and St. Louis City. The survey gauged residents’ level of satisfaction with their community/neighborhood, with specific regard to safety, exercise, and community events. The survey was approximately 15 minutes in length. The interviews were conducted in English by Precision Opinion from December 4 to December 30, 2014.
