ABOUT

Suleyman Bahceci, PhD, is a senior methods advisor at the AARP Public Policy Institute, where he has been a member of the Family, Home, and Community team since 2020. His work focuses on livable communities initiatives such as the AARP Livability IndexTM platform development and maintenance, data management and validation, quantitative data analysis, website enhancement, data pipeline development, and overall project management support to empower individuals and families to prosper in their homes and communities. Bahceci contributes to the exploration and application of artificial intelligence (AI) to the AARP Livability IndexTM platform, with a focus on strengthening back-end data pipeline development, enhancing project management systems, and improving the front-end user experience. He participates in internal AI workgroups and engages in professional development centered on responsible AI, data governance, and agentic AI systems.

Prior to joining AARP, Bahceci played an administrative role in higher education and K-12 education settings. and worked as a research scientist at Exelixis Inc., a biotechnology company in San Francisco.

Bahceci was appointed in 2024 by the Prince William Board of County Supervisors to serve as the general at-large representative to the Fairfax Water Authority, with a term extending through December 31, 2027. He also serves as adjunct faculty at George Mason University, where he teaches systems analysis and design. In addition, Bahceci is an active senior member of the Civil Air Patrol, contributing as a character education instructor.

He holds the certifications of the Project Manager Professionals (PMP), AWS Solutions Architect – Associate, AWS Cloud Practitioner, and CompTIA Security+.

Bahceci received his master’s and doctoral degrees in computational chemistry from the University of Texas, Austin and his bachelor’s degree in science education and master’s degree in chemistry and biochemistry from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey.
