Scott Tanaka

ABOUT

Scott Tanaka, MSW, is a senior advisor with AARP's Policy, Research and International (PRI) group and the Office of the Chief Public Policy Officer. He manages PRI's diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy, works to advance staff engagement across the department, and supports integration and strategy development with PRI’s leadership team. 

Prior to this role, Tanaka was with the Center to Champion Nursing in America (CCNA), an initiative of AARP Foundation, AARP, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. During his time with CCNA, Tanaka supported efforts to build a culture of health and increase health equity through a more diverse nursing workforce. He began his career at AARP with the multicultural leadership team, now the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, supporting the Asian American Pacific Islander audience strategy.

In addition, Tanaka is a former chair of AARP's Asian American & Pacific Islander Employee Resource Group, a former member of the AARP Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory Council, and is a past co-president of the Japanese American Citizens League, Washington DC Chapter.

He obtained a master’s in social work with a concentration in mental health and gerontology from the University of Southern California and received his bachelor’s in psychology from Biola University.
