Julio Portalatin Begins AARP Board of Directors Term

WASHINGTON—AARP today welcomed Julio Portalatin to its Board of Directors, who will serve a two-year term concluding in June 2022. The Board of Directors is the governing body of AARP and provides strategic direction, sets policy, and provides governance oversight for AARP. Directors’ responsibilities include approving AARP’s strategic plan, approving the budget, and monitoring AARP’s finances.

A leading authority on the future of work, Portalatin brings expertise in health care, financial security, older workers, and the future of work. He currently serves as Vice Chair of Marsh & McLennan Companies (MMC), a leading global professional services firm. Previously, Portalatin served as CEO of Mercer, an MMC company, and focused on redefining the world of work, reshaping retirement and investment outcomes, and unlocking real health and wellbeing. He serves on the boards of DXC Technologies, Covenant House International, and Hofstra University. As a past steward of the World Economic Forum, Portalatin’s insights have been featured in media outlets including The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, Fortune, CBS, and CNBC.

In addition to serving on AARP’s Board of Directors, Portalatin will also serve on the board of AARP Services, Inc.
“I am honored to join AARP’s Board of Directors,” Portalatin said. “I look forward to working with my Board colleagues and the AARP team to increase access to affordable health care, strengthen financial security, and promote a multigenerational workforce. All of these issues have become even more crucial in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. AARP has a vital role to play as we all seek to confront and recover from this crisis.”
