Savvy Weekly Digital Newsletter for Gen X Women Enjoys a Community of Girlfriends 400,000 Strong_x000D_

The Girlfriend Celebrates Friendships, Flirtations, Family and all things Forty, Fifty in Comedic Digital Series “The Other F Word”

WASHINGTON, DC— The Girlfriend, a savvy free weekly digital newsletter from AARP, announced today it is reaching a community of 400,000 women strong with its relationship, lifestyle, work, health and money-focused articles. Geared towards women age 40-plus and written from a personal “girlfriend” perspective, the newsletter addresses women’s everyday issues, from dealing with difficult health diagnoses to information on chemical peels and tips on how to flirt via text.

“It’s wonderful to see our fun, irreverent, no-nonsense articles resonating with women in their forties,” said Shelley Emling, editor of The Girlfriend. “We are committed to providing smart and savvy content on everything from sex toys to sleep apnea, from health tips to getting the passion back in a long-term relationship. This next year promises to be even more exciting, with more book giveaways and celebrations of girlfriend power.”

Founded a year ago to focus on an underserved audience, Gen-X women, The Girlfriend is celebrating its success by featuring a comedic coming-of-age digital video series called “The Other F Word” that profiles four women in their 40s and 50s who are dealing with the highs and lows of mid-life as they reinvent themselves now that their kids are grown.

The Other F Word is streaming now, where it will be available exclusively to Girlfriend viewers over the next 90 days. The first two segments are available now, with upcoming segments to be featured weekly.

"We are excited to collaborate with AARP and The Girlfriend as the themes and characters in our show reflect the essence of everything that The Girlfriend and AARP is about – life doesn’t end at fifty, it's when we fearlessly put the pedal to the metal,” said Caytha Jentis, creator of The Other F Word. “As an age disruptor myself, someone who against the odds started filmmaking in her forties, it’s an honor to work with AARP whose mission includes helping to break through the ageist glass ceiling - that ultimately benefits everyone!”

“The Girlfriend celebrates female friendships,” said Myrna Blyth, senior vice president and editorial director, AARP. “This is a central theme of ‘The Other F Word’ which is why we had to share it with our growing community of women.”

The Girlfriend, which lands into subscribers’ inboxes every Thursday, is available via digital newsletter, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. For more information, visit The Girlfriend.
