Do You Know How to Find the Best Deals at the Store?

Tips and tricks for saving in unexpected places

By now, you know it’s not your imagination. The everyday items you buy for your home really do cost more today than they did a few years ago – or even just a year ago. Consumer prices are nearly 25% higher in 2025 than they were in 20201,2. What’s more, prices show no sign of coming down anytime soon. This can put a strain on every household’s budget.

Fortunately, there are more ways to save at the store than ever before, but only if you know where to look for these deals. How savvy are you at saving at your favorite retailer? Let’s find out!

Question 1 of 7

Which of the following practices do supermarkets and other retailers use to pass savings along to their customers?

Grocers and other retailers don’t want higher prices to keep shoppers away. So, they offer multiple ways to save on frequently purchased products. Make a habit of scanning newspaper inserts and your mail for coupons. Stop at your store’s entrance to pick up their weekly circular, and pay attention to in-store sales, including those bonanza BOGO – buy one get one – sales.

Question 2 of 7

This once-popular money-saving tactic is rarely used anymore.

Double couponing, where stores double the value of manufacturers’ coupons, has pretty much gone the way of the dodo bird. But other decades-old savings methods persist. These include manager’s specials – discounts on products that are overstocked or nearing their sell-by date – and midweek specials – deals offered on days when traffic is typically light in stores. A range of supermarkets and retailers also offer senior discounts one day a week or month, with some stores defining “seniors” as 55+.

Question 3 of 7

If you want to find coupons for your favorite products, where should you look?

Call it discount fever! Strategic shoppers can find coupons and other ways to save by enrolling in loyalty programs offered by supermarkets and a wide range of other retailers. Consistently check store circulars and download browser extensions like RetailMeNot, CouponCabin, and Honey that scour the web to find coupons for you.

Question 4 of 7

Not all browser extensions can find coupon codes, offer price comparisons, provide product reviews, and give cash back.

Free and easy to install on web browsers like Safari or Chrome, shopping browser extensions, or add-ons, can be powerful tools in helping you trim your household budget. But not every browser extension will perform every bargain-hunting task. Some excel at hunting down coupons, others at alerting you to big sales or price drops at your favorite stores. It’s a good idea to research a few browser extensions to find the one that best meets your needs.

Question 5 of 7

Savings and coupon websites and apps can offer which of the following:

Today, saving at the store goes beyond just clipping coupons. Sure, with savings and coupon websites and apps, you can still find familiar coupons. However, these tools also help you earn cash back on purchases and apply discount codes. Plus, they make it a cinch to discover which local stores are offering the best price for items on your shopping list.

Question 6 of 7

Buying name-brand products is always more expensive than buying store brands.

Budget shopping doesn’t mean buying only generic or store-brand products. In fact, if you instinctively reach for a generic brand, you might be leaving savings on the shelf. That’s because the name-brand products you’ve come to trust may actually cost less, especially when you take advantage of coupons, in-store sales, and loyalty programs. When you join the free P&G Good Everyday rewards program, for example, you can save hundreds of dollars right from your phone on scores of your favorite P&G brands, including Tide, Charmin, Olay, Swiffer, Dawn, Febreze, Bounty, Crest, and many more.

Question 7 of 7

Which of these online savings tools is specifically focused on certain brands only?

Being a savings-savvy shopper means being mindful both of your budget and your time. And that makes a manufacturer’s rewards program an especially valuable tool. It’s a shortcut to savings on products you know you can rely on. The P&G Good Everyday loyalty program lets you save on your faves with coupons in three different ways: brandSAVER coupons sent straight to your Coupon24 app; personalized P&G digital coupons texted right to your phone; and coupons printed out at home for the P&G brands you love.
