Disasters can happen with little warning. Hurricanes, floods, severe storms and other emergencies can disrupt daily life, damage homes and make it harder to access the people, records and resources we rely on.

While no one can prevent every emergency, taking practical steps now can help you feel more prepared later.

More Ways to Benefit

AARP invites you to join Household Disaster Preparedness, a free webinar series with the South Carolina Emergency Management Division and SBP. The series will offer easy-to-follow guidance to help you better understand your risks, make a plan and take steps to protect your household and property.

Across three sessions, participants will learn about key preparedness topics, including:

  • Understanding disaster risks in your community
  • Creating a personal preparedness plan
  • Reviewing insurance coverage and knowing what questions to ask
  • Protecting important documents
  • Taking practical steps that can help reduce risks to your property

Each session is designed to help you turn information into action. You will walk away with practical ideas you can use to start or update your household plan, organize important records, talk with loved ones about what to do in an emergency, and identify steps that may help you prepare before disaster strikes.
