What Is a Memory Café?

A Memory Café is a social gathering designed for people living with memory changes and the family members, friends, and caregivers who support them. In a relaxed and welcoming environment, participants come together to enjoy engaging activities, conversation, and companionship.

Memory Cafés help reduce isolation, encourage social engagement, and create opportunities for caregivers and their loved ones to connect with others facing similar experiences.

Activities That Inspire Connection

Each Ethel’s Place Memory Café features activities designed to spark joy, encourage participation, and strengthen social connections, including:

  • Music and sing-alongs
  • Arts and crafts
  • Games and puzzles
  • Storytelling and reminiscing
  • Gentle movement and exercise
  • Coffee, refreshments, and conversation

The goal is simple: creating meaningful moments and enjoyable experiences together.

Benefits for Individuals Living with Memory Loss

Staying socially engaged can play an important role in overall well-being. Through creative and interactive activities, participants can exercise their minds, share memories, and build friendships in a supportive setting.

Most importantly, Ethel’s Place provides a welcoming space where individuals living with memory loss are treated with dignity, respect, and understanding.

Support for Family Caregivers

Family caregivers often spend so much time caring for others that they forget to care for themselves. Ethel’s Place offers a place to connect, learn, and find encouragement from people who truly understand the caregiving journey.

Caregivers can:

  • Share practical tips and experiences
  • Learn about local resources and support services
  • Build relationships with other caregivers
  • Reduce feelings of stress, loneliness, and isolation
  • Enjoy meaningful activities alongside their loved ones

You do not have to have all the answers. Sometimes, simply connecting with others who understand can make all the difference.

A Community Effort

Ethel’s Place Memory Café is made possible through the support and collaboration of community partners, including the Central Mississippi Planning and Development District, the City of Madison, the City of Brandon, Pax Hospice, Beltone, A Work of Art HomeCare, Home Instead Home Care, HomeWell, and Castlewoods Assisted Living.

At Ethel’s Place, everyone belongs. Together, we are creating a community where individuals living with memory loss and their caregivers can find support, friendship, and hope.
