During April, AARP will be taking action to help protect families and neighbors from the increasing threat of fraud.

We are showing up where people live across the country— working with local organizations, volunteers, and community leaders to bring trusted fraud prevention resources directly into neighborhoods.

As part of AARP Fraud Prevention Month, AARP Mississippi will host free, local shred events in Byram, Southaven and Vicksburg as well educational fraud prevention events in Starkville, Jackson, Pascagoula, Brandon, and Ridgeland.

Here’s a sample of our fraud prevention education events this month:

  • AARP DeSoto County Fraud Prevention Workshop, Southaven, April 2
  • AARP Slam Jam Starkville, April 2
  • AARP MS Fraud Prevention Lunch and Learn, Vicksburg, April 8
  • AARP MS Jackson County Fraud Prevention Workshop, Pascagoula, April 13
  • AARP MS Fraud Prevention Workshop, Jackson, April 13
  • AARP MS Fraud Blitz Lunch and Learn, Brandon, April 15
  • AARP MS and MS Attorney General’s Office Shred Event, Byram, April 15
  • AARP MS Fraud Mah Jongg Ridgeland, April 16
  • AARP MS Fraud Blitz Bunko Ridgeland, April 16
  • AARP MS and the MS Attorney General’s Office Shred Event, Southaven, April 17

This month of local activities and events will help empower residents with simple, actionable steps that can better protect them and their families from scams and identity theft.

We are also informing the public about AARP Fraud Watch Network™, which is a free resource for all, offering expert insights and tips to help individuals better spot and avoid potential scams.

Residents are encouraged to contact the AARP Fraud Watch Network Helpline at 877-908-3360 to discuss suspicious activity, report potential fraud, and to seek guidance on next steps.

In addition to these in-person and virtual events, AARP is advocating for policy solutions to protect consumers from crypto kiosk fraud and supporting fraud victims through our AARP Fraud Watch Network™ Helpline and fraud victim support program.

AARP is coming to this problem from multiple angles. We are empowering people with information about crypto kiosk scams and what to do if they are targeted and urging public officials to establish practical safeguards for consumers.
