David Lewellen,
Jameah Kirby, a fifth grader at Metcalfe County Elementary School, in the southern part of the state, is this year’s winner of the Grandparent of the Year essay contest.
The Kentucky Retired Teachers Association and AARP Kentucky sponsor the contest. It highlights the vital relationship between grandparents and their grandchildren. Jameah’s essay in praise of her great-grandmother, Carolyn Kirby, was chosen from among thousands of entries from students at 185 schools.
The contest also helps to bring attention to grandparents who are raising their grandkids. Learn more at kinshipky.org.
