As the lazy days of summer turn to fall, discover AARP Idaho and the activities planned near you. Whether you come for the information, resources or connections, we have something for everyone:

Scammers never stop refining ways to get people to part with their hard-earned money. While scammers are getting more sophisticated, the old ways – like sifting through someone’s trash or stealing mail – still work. That’s why AARP Idaho is offering a free shredding event in Boise on Tuesday, Sept. 15. See details below.

More Ways to Benefit

“You can safely and securely shred any of your sensitive documents, such as bank or credit card statements, or anything containing your name and address, at our free shred event,” said Karianne Fallow, AARP Idaho State Director. “We know that shredding documents can be an expensive undertaking. Our free event allows people to get this taken care of and have peace of mind.”

Want to stay one step ahead of scammers? AARP Idaho continues its Fraud Roadshows, in partnership with the Idaho Department of Finance and the Idaho Commission on Aging, throughout September in several communities. Participants can learn about the latest scams and fraud trends and gain practical tools to help protect their finances. Learn more at www.aarp.org/ID

Keeping your brain healthy is just as important as keeping physically fit. AARP Idaho is partnering with the YMCA for its annual Brain Health Symposium in October.

“Participants will have the ability to attend in person or virtually, and that’s where AARP Idaho comes in,” Fallow said. “We understand it can be difficult to travel or find time to attend an event in person, so AARP, working with the YMCA, facilitated the ability to offer this programming virtually.”

“We hope people can more easily take advantage of this important information, learning practical strategies to support cognitive wellness and brain function,” she said.

And if staying healthy is of interest to you, there is a unique opportunity in early October to help shape future healthcare workers and how they deal with older patients.

AARP Idaho is joining Idaho State University and the Idaho AHEC for two discussions – one in Pocatello and one in Meridian, both on Oct. 7.  This symposium offers participants the opportunity to share their aging experiences with the future health care workforce and help shape more person-centered care.
