AARP Idaho Partners with Boise Police Department for Drug Take Back Day

October 24 is National Drug Take Back Day, and AARP Idaho is joining forces with the Boise Police Department to ensure Idahoans can dispose of old or unused medications safely.

“Old medications can be dangerous if they fall into the wrong hands,” said Karianne Fallow, AARP Idaho State Director. “Don’t dispose of them in the trash where children, pets and others can find them or drop them down the drain, which is bad for water and the environment.”

“That’s why we are partnering with the Boise Police Department to create a safe, secure and easy way to dispose of these medications in the right way,” Fallow said.

Boise Police Department Crime Prevention Supervisor, Ed Fritz, said, “This is a great opportunity to take a few minutes to clean out your medicine cabinet and safely dispose of medications you no longer need. We appreciate our community taking this simple, responsible step. In past Drug Take Back events, our community has helped us safely dispose of hundreds of pounds of medication.”

Drug Take Back Day is a drive-through event. Syringes, sharps or illicit drugs will not be accepted. Liquid medicines, such as cough syrup, should remain in their original container tightly sealed.

The event takes place Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at City Hall West, 333 N. Mark Stall Place, Boise, 83704.

AARP Idaho will also have a table on practical fraud prevention tips and resources to help protect yourself and your loved ones from scams.

Registration is not required. Participants can just drop by and safely and securely dispose their medications.
