Make Your Voice Heard. Know the When, Where, and How to Vote

The 2026 elections are right around the corner. For Connecticut residents to make sure their voice is heard, it's more important than ever to know when, where, and how to vote.

Voters 50-plus are the majority of voters in every election, and they are stretched to the limit. They want to see politicians address their day-to-day challenges. They are concerned about the rising cost of groceries, housing and health care. They’re focused on protecting Social Security and getting more support for family caregivers. They want leaders who understand these challenges and are prepared to act.

Candidates in Connecticut who want to win should listen to older voters and address the issues that matter to them.

But today, getting clear, reliable information isn’t easy. AARP is committed to providing trusted, nonpartisan information to voters. We don’t endorse candidates or political parties. Instead, we focus on helping people understand when, where and how to vote, and where candidates stand on the issues that matter most to Connecticut’s residents. That’s why AARP Connecticut is asking candidates running for state and federal offices to address the following questions as they campaign and encourages voters to do the same:

Questions to ask Connecticut candidates running for a state office position:

• Connecticut is one of the few states that still taxes portions of Social Security income. What is your position on this policy, and what changes would you support to reduce or eliminate this tax?
• Connecticut has among the highest utility rates in the country. What would you do to reduce this cost burden on Connecticut ratepayers?
• Connecticut faces a housing crisis, related to both affordability and access. What will you do to expand housing options for older residents of Connecticut?

Questions to ask Connecticut candidates running for a Federal office position:

• If elected, how would you work to protect and strengthen Social Security for older Americans, their children, and grandchildren?
• If elected, how would you help family caregivers save money and time so they can continue caring for their loved ones?
