The AARP 2017 New Mexico Small Business Owner Work and Save Study was a telephone study among small business owners or decision makers about employee benefits at companies with 1-100 additional employees within the state of New Mexico.

Key findings include the following:

  • Just over half (56%) of New Mexico small business owners express concern regarding their employees having enough money to retire.

  • Two in three (65%) New Mexico small business owners support legislation that would create a state retirement option.

  • Two in three small businesses in New Mexico say they are likely to offer employees access to a state retirement savings option if it's available.

Interviews were conducted September 12-October 5, 2017. Respondents were offered a $5 check in appreciation for their participation. Sample, including owner names and companies, came from a Dun & Bradstreet business list.
