The AARP Financial Security Trends Survey is conducted annually to monitor the financial experiences, behaviors, and attitudes of adults age 30-plus. The survey examines overall sense of financial well-being; financial experiences over the past 12 months; optimism about the next 12 months; details related to debt, emergency savings, retirement savings, and expenses; and overarching financial worries.
Reports and articles from each year of the survey may be accessed below.
The findings offer insights related to the role of savings, debt, financial shocks, and expenses on financial well-being while also exploring topics such as expectations concerning retirement, concerns about rising prices, and the financial challenges of single adults.
The most recent survey was conducted in January 2026. The survey was conducted semiannually during its first two years in 2022 and 2023 and has been conducted annually since 2024. Fielded by NORC at the University of Chicago on behalf of AARP, the survey includes oversamples of Black and African American adults, Hispanic and Latino adults, Asian American adults, and LGBTQ+ adults. It is designed to be representative of adults age 30-plus across the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
The Financial Security Trends Survey Interactive Dashboard is also available to generate charts and further explore the data. A companion User Guide is available with further guidance on using the dashboard.
