Question 1 of 8

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has finalized a rule that would cap late fees on credit cards, significantly lowering the typical charge. The agency says that the new rule would save cardholders more than $10 billion, or $220 a year on average, for each of the more than 45 million people hit yearly by late fees.

What would the cap for late fees be under the CFPB rule?

The rule could take effect as early as May and would apply only to major card issuers — those with at least 1 million open accounts. Even so, the rule would cover 95 percent of total outstanding credit card balances, the CFPB says.

Question 2 of 8

Trader Joe’s recalled nearly 62,000 pounds of frozen chicken soup dumplings sold nationwide because they may contain hard pieces of plastic, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced on March 2.

Where did the plastic pieces come from?

The problem was discovered following consumer complaints, but there have been no reported cases of injuries resulting from eating the products. The recalled frozen dumplings, made by CJ Foods Manufacturing Beaumont Corp. on Dec. 7, 2023, come in 6-ounce boxes with plastic trays containing six pieces of “Trader Joe’s Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings.”

Question 3 of 8

Many people are familiar with heartburn — that painful burning sensation in the chest brought on by acid reflux. What you may not know is heartburn has a stealthy, lesser-known cousin that can also inflict misery, a condition known as laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), or “silent reflux.”

Which are symptoms of silent reflux?

The problem is, these warning signs mimic symptoms associated with other conditions (including allergies and the common cold) and lifestyle habits (such as overeating, eating late, lying down right after a meal). If you’re experiencing symptoms, you should schedule an appointment with your primary care doctor.

Question 4 of 8

Yikes! You just got an audit letter from the Internal Revenue Service or a notice of a discrepancy regarding your return. What should you do?

Don’t panic. It may just be that you’ve forgotten to enter a form in your return — say, a stray 1099. But don’t ignore the correspondence either. If you fail to respond by the deadline given, the IRS will automatically assume that its numbers, not yours, are the correct ones, or disallow the entries on your return that it has questions about.

Question 5 of 8

World War II wasn’t just a man’s war. American women also served in vital roles, often going unrecognized for their contributions, from piloting planes to managing communication networks. A handful of their stories are documented in a special exhibit, “Our War Too: Women in Service,” at the National WWII Museum in New Orleans until July 21.

How many American women served in WWII?

“The story of women veterans in World War II is really ongoing,” says Kim Guise, the museum’s senior curator and director for curatorial affairs. “You can see how the paths that they forged during the war are still being traveled by women in service today.”

Question 6 of 8

Anyone who turned on the TV (or saw a magazine cover) in the 1990s knew Luke Perry. The actor took over the small screen as the pompadoured, leather-jacketed Dylan McKay on the hit show “Beverly Hills, 90210” and rocketed into teen idol stardom. This month, the arc of Perry’s shortened life is brought to vivid life by Margaret Wappler in “A Good Bad Boy,” a biography of the actor publishing on the fifth anniversary of his March 2019 death.

In what year did Perry appear on the cover of “AARP The Magazine”?

When Perry graced the cover of “AARP The Magazine,” marking his 50th birthday in 2016, late-night host Stephen Colbert couldn’t help but wryly share in the time-passing moment. “I’m feeling pretty old tonight,” Colbert joked in his monologue while brandishing a copy of the magazine. “It seems like only yesterday I was watching ‘90210,’ shopping for flannel shirts on my way to a Ross Perot rally, drinking a Zima while legally purchasing entire albums of music.”

Question 7 of 8

Nothing says spring like cherry blossoms. After the cold bleakness of winter, the arrival of the fragrant flowers signals that warmer temperatures and longer days are just around the corner. Which of these cities is a good spot to check out cherry blossoms?

These harbingers of spring generally bloom from early March to early April, but each year is different. Be sure to check weather and blooming forecasts for the area you want to visit. All locations are at least partially accessible under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
