Costco Recalls More Than 45,000 Mattresses Over Mold Risk
Products may have been exposed to water during manufacturing
Two types of Novaform mattresses sold exclusively by Costco were recalled over concerns they may have been exposed to water when they were manufactured, leading to a risk of mold growth.
The recall has affected an estimated 48,000 mattresses, and there have been 541 reports of mold on the mattresses, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said in a statement.

The affected products were sold by Costco in-stores and online throughout the northwest United States and in the San Francisco Bay area between January 2023 and June 2023.
The recall involves all sizes of Novaform ComfortGrande 14-inch and Novaform DreamAway 8-inch mattresses. The CPSC lists all product numbers associated with the facility in San Bernardino, California, responsible for the recall. To check if a mattress is affected, consumers can locate the item number on the law tag attached to the side of the mattress.
Consumers who bought the affected mattresses should reach out to the manufacturer, FXI Inc., to arrange either for a refund or a free replacement. Both options include pickup and disposal of the old mattress.
FXI can be reached at 888-886-2057 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, or online at novaformcomfort.com/pages/recall. Costco will also be contacting known customers directly with information about the recall.
Exposure to mold can pose a health risk to those with compromised immune systems, damaged lungs or a mold allergy.
Mold typically grows where there is moisture, such as around leaks, on paper, ceiling tiles and wood. But it can also live in dust, paint, wallpaper, drywall, fabric and upholstery, according to the CDC.
