Yeti has recalled almost 2 million soft coolers and gear due to the possibility of the magnets in the magnet-lined closures becoming loose and falling off, which could result in serious injury or death if accidentally swallowed.
“When two or more high-powered magnets are swallowed, the ingested magnets can attract to each other, or to another metal object, and become lodged in the digestive system,” said a recall statement from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). “This can result in perforations, twisting and/or blockage of the intestines, infection, blood poisoning and death.”

The agency received 1,399 reports of magnets missing or coming loose. However, no ingestions or injuries have been reported.
The affected products, priced from $50 to $350 depending on the item, were sold nationwide between March 2018 and January 2023 through various retailers, including Academy Sports + Outdoors, Ace Hardware, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Amazon.com and Yeti.com.
The affected coolers and gear, sold in a variety of colors, have a main pocket lined with high-powered magnets that are enclosed in a heat-sealed plastic strip. They are:
- M20 Soft Backpack Cooler, 18 inches by 18 inches.
- M30 Soft Cooler 1.0 and 2.0, 25 inches by 17 inches.
- Sidekick Dry Gear Case, 11 inches by 7 inches.
Consumers who purchased any of the recalled items are advised to stop using them immediately and contact Yeti for a full refund or replacement product.
