Great minds think alike. First, AARP honored Noah Wyle for The Pitt and named him the hottest Gen X actor. Now, People’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2026 is none other than Wyle, 55.
The actor won best actor in a TV drama series at AARP’s Movies for Grownups Awards in January. In June, he topped AARP’s inaugural list of the 25 Hottest Gen X Actors.
“I feel like I’ve earned every gray hair and every wrinkle, and each one is a story, and stories are usually pretty good,” he told AARP at the Movies for Grownups Awards ceremony.
That still didn’t prepare him for being named the Sexiest Man Alive. Wyle told People he initially thought the magazine’s honor was a prank. His wife, Sara, helped convince him to accept.
“She thinks I’m a good guy and that the kind of person that I am and the kind of father I am, the kind of husband I am, is worth promoting,” he said.
Wyle became famous as Dr. John Carter on ER, which premiered in 1994. More than three decades later, he’s back in scrubs as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch on The Pitt.
The series has brought him four Emmys: two for lead actor in a drama series and two as an executive producer of the show, which also won outstanding drama series in 2025 and 2026. He received five Emmy nominations for his work on ER but did not win. Season 3 of The Pitt is slated to return in January 2027.
Wyle told People that his years on ER felt like a blur. Now, he says, “The Pitt gives me the opportunity to do it differently than I did the first time — with a little bit more presence and a little bit more composure.”
At the Movies for Grownups Awards ceremony back in January, Wyle compared returning to a medical drama to becoming a father for the third time, years after the births of his two older children. He told AARP that both experiences gave him another chance to appreciate something he knew was “finite, fleeting and special.”
Even with a shelf full of awards and a new title from People, Wyle told the magazine he hasn’t yet reached the point of feeling comfortable in his own skin.
“I like being in other people’s skin. I like putting on characters. I get self-conscious. It’s still the hardest kind of interaction for me, speaking without a script as myself.”
