Old Timer’s Green Bean Casserole Recipe

Serves 6

Ingredients

  • Cooking spray
  • 4 tablespoons (½ stick) unsalted butter
  • 2 cups cornflakes
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 (14.5-ounce) cans cut green beans, drained
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups grated longhorn-style block cheese

Directions

Preheat the oven to 400°F. Grease a 10-inch-by-6-inch casserole dish with cooking spray.

In a skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of the butter. Pour the melted butter in a bowl and toss with the cornflakes to coat. Set aside.

Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons butter in the skillet. Add the flour and cook, stirring constantly, until browned. Season with salt and pepper. Remove from the heat and add the green beans, stirring to coat. Stir in the sour cream until well combined.

Pour the green bean mixture into the prepared casserole dish. Top evenly with grated cheese and buttered cornflakes. Bake for 30 minutes, until browned and bubbly.
