New to Camping and RVing? These Sites Feel More Like Resorts

Find out what amenities you can expect at these campsites

Camping in pretty landscapes with resort-style amenities can make the whole experience easier. For example, amenities at Naches RV Resort in Washington include sprawling RV lots and access to white water rafting and wine tasting.

For people who’ve never tried it, the idea of camping or staying overnight in an RV somewhere deep in nature — when you could be comfortably ensconced in a resort or hotel with all the creature comforts close at hand — can feel intimidating (not to mention unappealing).

But the chance to surround yourself with beautiful landscapes during an RV or camping vacation in some of the prettiest parts of the United States hardly has to mean roughing it.

“Today’s RV and campground resorts are a game changer for first-timers looking for a comfortable, stress-free way to experience the outdoors,” says Carolin Fuller, director of consumer marketing at Campspot, an online booking platform for camping and RV stays across North America. “With everything from pools and spas to on-site amenities like luxury clubhouses, restaurants, water parks and even boat rentals, many of these resorts feel more like luxury getaways than traditional campgrounds.”

According to RV Share’s 2025 Travel Trend Report, 67 percent of Gen X respondents and 29 percent of boomers planned to take a road trip or vacation in an RV in 2025. And the top five destinations for people hoping to enjoy an RV vacation range across Florida, Utah, Arizona, California and Nevada.

The online marketplace RV Trader has noted an increase in the number of glamping-style experiences available to campers, says Roger Dunbar, travel expert with RV Trader.

“Quite simply, the demand for resort-like stays is rising — and we believe that the 50-plus demographic is the prime target and beneficiary of this trend,” he says.

And RV Industry Association data shows that the industry’s biggest consumer segment, the “casual camper,” is made up entirely of people older than 45, according to spokesperson Monika Geraci, with 39 percent of today’s RV owners older than 55.

The following campgrounds across the U.S. promise a soft landing in the form of on-site amenities such as heated pools, indoor socializing spaces, saunas, pickleball courts and more.

Rates for tent sites are almost always less expensive than RV sites. But keep in mind, prices will vary throughout the year in most destinations. Many RV campgrounds have dynamic pricing that fluctuates with seasonality as well as the length of your RV. For the most reliable pricing info, it’s best to visit the website or call the campground before you travel.

Normandy Farms, Foxborough, Massachusetts

Ideal for a multigenerational tent-camping or RV adventure, this sprawling property between Boston and Cape Cod has more amenities than most luxury resorts. The same family has operated Normandy Farms, once a working farm, for 10 generations. You can swim in four pools: two Olympic-sized outdoor ones, a heated outdoor one and a heated indoor one (the latter has a nearby sauna, too). Tennis, pickleball, basketball, shuffleboard, a fishing pond, cornhole and more can keep you active all day. The Creative Arts Center hosts activities like yoga, arts and crafts, and cribbage games. And on rainy days, take shelter in the 20,000-square-foot lodge, which houses an arcade as well as fitness and wellness centers. There’s even a 1.5-acre dog park on-site.

Zion River Resort RV Park & Campground, Virgin, Utah

Picture yourself camping at or pulling your RV up to a spot on the banks of the Virgin River in southwest Utah, just minutes from the canyon hiking trails and scenic drives of Zion National Park. With shaded RV and tent sites, the resort makes even hot summer stays appealing with a refreshing on-site swimming pool (heated in the wintertime) and an indoor activity room that has air conditioning, games and a big-screen TV for movie nights. Grandkids can frolic at the park’s playground or try their luck finding gemstones in a mining sluice. From March to October, the campground’s shuttle bus runs guests to the national park for $15 round-trip.

Camp Fimfo Texas Hill Country, New Braunfels, Texas

Secreted away in a horseshoe bend of the Guadalupe River just outside the German-inflected Texas Hill Country town of New Braunfels, this all-encompassing RV and tent resort (with cabins, too) appeals to active vacationers. Like a summer camp for all ages, the resort’s many amenities include a heated pool that’s open from early March to early November, a water park with twisting slides and an 18-hole mini golf course. There are also pickleball and volleyball courts, a sheltered swimming hole carved out of the river — complete with a waterfall — a ropes course, and an activities pavilion that hosts complimentary craft workshops and movie nights. An on-site tavern serves craft cocktails and local beers. And direct access to the Guadalupe River makes it easy to go tubing or fly-fishing.

River Bend Resort, Forestville, California

California’s wine-country good life meets the good camping and RV life at this family-owned destination in Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley. With a private beach along the Russian River that’s ideal for both daytime swims and nighttime stargazing, and RV and tent sites overlooking the river, River Bend Resort delivers old-school family fun. Think horseshoe pits, a gaming arcade and general store right on-site, as well as scavenger hunts and movie nights. Pulling yourself away from this bucolic setting, shaded by towering redwood trees, is tough. But when you’re ready to taste the fruits of the region, vineyards are close by.

Naches RV Resort, Selah, Washington

With 300 days of sunshine a year, central Washington’s greater Yakima area is known for its wine country and outdoor fun. If you’re feeling motivated, you can ski, hike, bike and even squeeze in some golf over the course of a single day. You can also just kick back at the lovely Naches RV Resort, right along the rushing Naches River and roughly 20 minutes west of the town of Yakima. With views of rolling hillsides, the resort has sprawling RV lots and amenities that include a saltwater pool and hot tub, a dog park, a playground for kids, pickleball and basketball courts, and a clubhouse complete with a kitchen, fireplace, laundry and big-screen TVs. Guests can access hiking and jogging trails right on-site. White water rafting, wine tasting (Yakima Valley is home to 90 wineries) and skiing are all a short drive away.

Peace River Oaks, Bowling Green, Florida

Florida is at its most unexpected away from the coast and in its hinterlands. About an hour and a half south of Orlando, Peace River Oaks offers premium glamping tents and RV sites shaded by oak trees draped with Spanish moss, with many sites overlooking the gentle flow of the Peace River. Miles of private trails wind through the forest, and you can rent canoes on-site to get out on the river, where you may spot wading birds, turtles and alligators. Guests can look forward to memory foam mattresses and Keurig coffee makers in their tents, as well as access to hot tubs and saunas. There’s a general store as well as outdoor movie nights on the gaming lawn, where guests can gather around a firepit under a canopy of stars. For something unique, ask the resort to book you a private fossil-hunting tour along the Peace River, where ancient megalodon teeth and mammoth bones have been found.
