Key dates for voting
2026 is a critical year for Tennessee voters. During the year, residents will elect a new Governor, members of Congress, and state and local officials. AARP wants to make sure you have all the up-to-date information on voting in 2026.
The important issues for Tennesseans to consider:
- Social Security: making sure our lawmakers protect Social Security benefits and services.
- Fraud Prevention: fighting back against scams, including cryptocurrency ATM scams.
- Caregiving: supporting more than 1.5 million family caregivers in Tennessee.

Key Voting Dates for 2026
May 6, 2026: County Primary Elections (where applicable)
Early voting for county primaries: April 15-30
Election Day: May 5

August 6, 2026: Primary and General Elections
Primary for Governor, U.S. Senate, U.S. House, Tennessee Senate (odd-numbered districts), Tennessee House, and Republican and Democratic State Executive Committees. General elections will be held for county offices.
Voter Registration Deadline: July 7
Early Voting: July 17-August 1
Absentee Ballot Request Deadline: July 27
Election Day: August 6
November 3, 2026: State and Federal General Election
General Election for Governor, U.S. Senate, U.S. House, Tennessee Senate (odd-numbered districts), and Tennessee House of Representatives.
Voter Registration Deadline: October 5
Early Voting: October 14-29
