Governor Shapiro Signs 2026-27 Pennsylvania Budget into Law
AARP Pennsylvania State Director Bill Johnston-Walsh says the budget makes important investments in programs that help older adults and families live with dignity, security, and independence.
AARP Pennsylvania State Director Bill Johnston-Walsh issued the following statement today regarding Governor Shapiro signing the 2026-2027 Pennsylvania Budget:
AARP Pennsylvania appreciates the General Assembly and Governor Shapiro for enacting a budget that makes investments in programs that help Pennsylvanians of all ages live with dignity, security, and independence. The budget strengthens several areas that matter to older adults and their families, including additional support for prescription assistance through the PACE/PACENET Program, the Living Independence for the Elderly (LIFE) program, mental health services, home and community-based care, and SNAP fraud prevention through chip-enabled benefit cards. While this budget represents meaningful progress, more work remains to address the financial and health security challenges facing Pennsylvania’s aging population. AARP Pennsylvania remains committed to working with policymakers to advance solutions that strengthen support for family caregivers, expand retirement savings opportunities, improves access to long-term services and supports, and protect older adults from fraud and financial exploitation.
