Staying in control of your finances and your future starts with knowing your rights. As we age, it becomes even more important to choose someone we trust to act on our behalf and make sure our wishes are understood and respected. A free upcoming event in Philadelphia will give older Pennsylvanians practical information to help protect their wishes, their choices, and the assets they’ve worked so hard to build.

On Wednesday, November 18, join the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office, the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, AARP Pennsylvania at the Drexel Kline Institute of Trial Advocacy – conveniently located in Center City Philadelphia at 12th and Chestnut Streets – for a free event focused on protecting your rights and your financial future. Designed for Pennsylvanians age 60 and older, the event will provide helpful guidance and tools to help you make informed decisions and protect what matters most.

More Ways to Benefit

Throughout the day, attendees will hear from legal and medical experts about several important areas of planning and protection, including:

  • Decision-making capacity: Learn how medical and legal professionals determine whether someone can make important legal decisions.
  • Powers of attorney: Understand how they work, know your rights, and learn why choosing someone you trust matters.
  • Financial exploitation: Learn to spot the warning signs and steps to take to protect yourself and your finances.
  • Guardianship: Understand when guardianship may be considered and what it can mean for your rights and choices.

A light breakfast and lunch will be provided. The day will conclude with an opportunity to meet one-on-one with a pro bono attorney, ask questions, and better understand the options available to you.
