How to Apply for AARP Nevada State President

AARP Nevada is looking for its next State President, the top volunteer leadership role in the state. Working alongside State Director Tod Story, staff, and fellow volunteers, the State President helps set priorities and advances AARP's mission to improve the lives of Nevadans 50 and older. The role chairs the AARP Nevada Executive Council and serves as a principal volunteer voice for AARP across the state. This is a volunteer leadership position, not a paid staff role.

A planned transition

AARP Nevada thanks current State President Charlie Shepard for his dedicated service as his term concludes at the end of 2026. The incoming State President is expected to be appointed in November 2026, take part in a transition period with the outgoing president, and begin a two year term, renewable, on the date set in the appointment.

What makes a strong candidate

A strong candidate is an AARP member who brings a statewide, not just regional, perspective, is comfortable representing a nonpartisan organization publicly, works well with volunteers and staff, and communicates clearly. Knowledge of Nevada's communities and networks is a genuine asset for this role.
