Timing Taxes: More Flexibility on Property Levies

Montanans have more flexibility on paying property taxes.

A new law lets them pay their bill in seven monthly installments instead of larger ones twice a year. AARP championed the law because older adults are less likely to pay property taxes through monthly escrow payments with their mortgage. Many no longer have a mortgage, notes Tim Summers, AARP Montana state director. That makes two lump-sum payments difficult if they haven’t saved up.
