AARP Kentucky On the Hill
Advocating for the needs of Americans 50-plus
Earlier this year, AARP red was visible everywhere on Capitol Hill, as AARP Kentucky volunteers and staffers joined others from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to advocate for the needs of Americans 50-plus.
Hundreds of volunteers and staff from every state in the nation were representing AARP on Capitol Hill on April 15. “As the voice for 125 million Americans 50-plus, our message to Congress is clear: protect Social Security, support family caregivers, and strengthen safeguards against fraud and financial exploitation,” said Nancy LeaMond, AARP Executive Vice President and Chief Advocacy & Engagement Officer.
AARP Kentucky’s team held meetings with all but one of Kentucky’s members of Congress. The state office was represented by Troy Broussard, State Director, with Gary Adkins, State President, and Daniel Roe, State Advocacy & Community Engagement Manager.
Each meeting sought to lay out the AARP Priorities and urge action during the second session of the 119th Congress.
2026 AARP Priorities:
- Social Security
- Acknowledge the President’s commitment to protecting Social Security.
- Caring for Loved Ones / Family Caregiving
- Highlight the growing need to support the country’s 63 million family caregivers.
- Fraud Prevention
- Note the rapid growth in fraud: up 43% last year, totaling more than $196 billion in losses.
- GUARD Act
- Provides local law enforcement with tools and resources to combat fraud.
- Tax Relief for Victims of Crimes, Scams, and Disasters Act
AARP represents 125 million Americans age 50-plus and will continue to advocate for policies that help older Americans live with dignity, security, and financial confidence.
