Conversations with the Candidates in Iowa

AARP has a long history of nonpartisan voter engagement. We do not endorse candidates or contribute to campaigns. Instead, we help inform AARP’s 300,000 Iowa members and the public about where candidates stand on issues that matter to older Iowans. In the 2024 general election, 54 percent of Iowa voters were age 50-plus.

This year, AARP Iowa sat down with candidates for U.S. Senate and governor to discuss issues important to older Iowans and their families. From protecting financial security to helping people age with dignity in their communities, Zach Lahn, Rob Sand, Ashley Hinson and Josh Turek shared their vision for Iowa and the challenges facing our state.

Key 2026 Election Dates

October 14

• In-person absentee voting starts
• Absentee ballots start being mailed

October 19

• Last day to request an absentee ballot to be mailed
• Voter pre-registration deadline

November 3 - Election Day

• Absentee ballots MUST be returned by the time polls close at 8:00 p.m.
