AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Seeking Volunteers in Hawai‘i
Program Provides Free Tax Prep Help for Those Who Need It Most
The AARP Foundation is recruiting friendly and service-oriented people throughout Hawai‘i to join its Tax-Aide volunteer team. Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest free, volunteer-based tax assistance and preparation program. During the 2026 tax season, more than 30,000 volunteers served over 1.8 million taxpayers in communities across the nation through free tax preparation and filing services. People using the service secured more than $1.8 billion in refunds and credits, with nearly $750 million going directly to older adults with low income. Nearly 60 years after its founding in 1968, Tax-Aide has served more than 80 million taxpayers and continues to change lives every tax season.
“We are proud to continue our work to provide Hawai‘i residents with free tax assistance next year. Even modest refunds can have a dramatic impact on the lives of older adults, and our Tax-Aide volunteers help make sure they don’t miss out on the credits and deductions they’ve earned,” said Keali‘i Lopez, AARP Hawai‘i state director.

In addition to providing free tax preparation and filing services, Tax-Aide volunteers also help with tech support, organize tax sites, recruit volunteers, translate and more, in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. They’re trained and IRS-certified every year to ensure they understand the latest changes to the U.S. Tax Code. Volunteers come from a variety of careers and don’t need to be AARP members. A training class will be held in December or January for the 2027 tax season.
“Volunteers are the heart of our Tax-Aide program,” said AARP Foundation President Claire Casey, herself a Tax-Aide volunteer. “They make a meaningful difference in AARP Foundation’s mission to end senior poverty by helping vulnerable older adults in their communities build financial resilience.”
