Property taxes are a major source of revenue for states and local governments. While this revenue often funds essential services such as education and public safety, property taxes can present a financial strain on many homeowners with fixed incomes, low-to-moderate income families, rural property owners and small business owners.

Methodology

To better understand the impact of increasing property taxes on older Hoosiers in particular, AARP commissioned a poll among 1,001 Indiana registered voters age 50 and older who own a home. The poll was fielded in December 2024.
