These communities are working to ensure that transportation options meet the needs of older residents.

  • Mount Prospect, Illinois, launched a transit study and educational programs to address transportation barriers
  • Augusta, Maine, created a safety committee to advise on age-friendly infrastructure
  • Buda, Texas, hosted a downtown walk audit that resulted in enhanced pedestrian safety features
  • Amesbury, Massachusetts, adjusted bus routes and hosted transit training sessions
  • Arlington, Texas, and Austin, Texas, are implementing programs to improve accessibility, such as safer walkways and free parking for older adults
  • Emeryville, California, expanded its transportation services by adding ADA-compliant buses
  • Cheshire, Connecticut, increased its senior transport services, adding new vehicles to meet growing demand
