Towns, cities and counties in the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities seek to engage and serve people of all ages

These communities are working to ensure that residents feel they belong.

  • Howard County, Maryland, created an ageism awareness campaign
  • Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, hosts age-inclusive workplace trainings and an inclusive photo bank
  • Buncombe County, North Carolina, held an age-friendly summit
  • Rochester, New York, and Monroe County, New York, are leading a "reframing aging" movement
  • Oxford, Ohio, and Englewood, New Jersey, are pursuing engagement efforts and policy changes
  • Cleveland, Ohio, formalized its age-friendly work with a City Hall-based taskforce
  • Arlington, Virginia, is integrating age-friendly planning into the county government
