LOCATION: Boston, Massachusetts
GRANTEE: City of Boston

generic-video-poster

As part of its new Age-Friendly Walking program, Boston used AARP Community Challenge grant funds to install benches in each of the city's Main Street districts. The goal of the program is to make Boston (which is a member of the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities) safe and comfortable for walking. The work is a collaboration between the nonprofit WalkBoston and the city's Age Strong Commission, Office of Streets, and Mayor's Office of New Urban Mechanics. The city also created a map of the bench locations and installed boxes for residents to provide suggestions and comments.

  • The AARP Community Challenge funds "quick-action" projects that build momentum for local change to improve livability for people of all ages.
