Legendary supermodel Heidi Klum is happily embracing middle age and all that it brings.
In an interview with People, the 52-year-old businesswoman said getting older “doesn’t matter” because “I don’t have this age-shaming or body-shaming thing.”“I feel like everyone should do what they want to do,” Klum said. “I like to run around sexy — even now at 52.”Klum also discussed one of the concerns some people have about being in their 50s.
“The biggest misconception [about] being in your 50s is that you are off the shelf. You’re not off the shelf,” she said. “We are very much on that shelf for everyone to see."
Klum encouraged people who are aging not to “hide” in their 50s.
“Beauty is ever-changing,” she said. “And I’m here for the change. If it’s always the same, life is boring.”
The Project Runway host noted that views on aging have changed since the ’90s, when she rose to stardom.
“I feel like we’re more welcoming of wrinkles and rolls on our body,” Klum said. “Being accepted at every age is amazing. That we’ve changed and come all that way.”
Klum said she’s “looking at 60 and 70, hopefully 80 and 90,” and “if we’re still kicking it then, let’s celebrate.”The Primetime Emmy Award winner said she’s “all for” Botox and discussing plastic surgery.
“Whoever wants to talk about [plastic surgery] and wants to share, give me all the numbers.”
Regarding gray hair, Klum mentioned she has a few.
“I have one in my eyebrow,” she admitted. “It’s so weird. And I have one on this boob that is this long sometimes.”
Actress Sandra Oh also recently discussed the benefits and challenges of being a woman in her 50s.
“Don’t let anyone fool you. It’s tougher on my body,” the 54-year-old told the New York Times. “It’s tougher on my mind in certain ways. But it is great, because I feel balanced enough to really start digging into very important questions.” The Grey’s Anatomy star has come to believe that aging means “it is not up to anyone else to free you,” but rather, “it’s up to yourself.”
“So whether you have body issues, things about your past, how you grew up, your trauma — those are the things that now you have some space and are able to handle grappling with. But my joints hurt,” she said.
Meanwhile, actress Charlize Theron is looking forward to her 50th birthday on August 7.“I told my mom that I was looking forward to 50, and she said, ‘Oh, honey, it gets so much better when you hit your 70s,’ ” Theron recently told USA Today. “So, yeah, I feel like I got lucky with good genes. I think life’s going to be OK for me from here on out.”
