Hawaii Briefings Shed Light on the Progress of Health Reform
A series of health care reform briefings in mid-September gave residents a chance to get the facts about the bills moving through Congress.
Some Good News in Tough Times
The House passed the Medicare Premium Fairness Act, which would ensure that all Medicare beneficiaries are spared from an increase in Part B premiums in 2010 that would effectively shrink the Social Security checks of beneficiaries. AARP is also calling on House and Senate leaders to provide emergency relief in the form of a one-time $250 payment to millions of older Americans who are struggling in this economic climate.
Event to Shed Light on Long-Term Care Financing Options
In early December, AARP Hawaii will sponsor long-term care information sessions on Oahu, Kauai, Hawaii and Maui to help Island residents get a handle on decisions about their future care.
Get Out and Ride
AARP Hawaii is sponsoring a free event that explores transportation opportunities for people interested in alternatives to driving on Oahu. The event features must-have information for seniors interested in getting the most out of TheBus, Handi-Van and Van Pool Hawaii. It also includes tips for riding your bicycle safely and how Oahu’s rail system will work with other modes of transportation.
