Election 2008 Candidate Forum Set for Oct. 20

Get the facts. Use the power. Vote.

That’s the message AARP wants to send to its members leading up to the November 4th elections. Older Americans vote in greater proportion than any other age group and are a crucial voting block in state and national races. AARP’s efforts focus on informing and educating all voters as well as encouraging them to vote.

For 20 years AARP has been involved in voter education through the publication of voter guides, organizing candidate forums, providing voters with information about topics of concern, and disseminating candidates’ positions through publications, direct mail, news stories and advertisements. AARP is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, and does not endorse political candidates, or contribute money to political parties or political candidates’ campaigns.

As part of AARP’s voter education efforts in Connecticut, the association will host a candidate forum in the 5th Congressional District with:
  • U.S. Rep Chris Murphy (D)
  • State Senator David J. Cappiello (R)

Monday, Oct. 20, 2008 from 9:30am – 12 pm
at the Four Points by Sheraton
275 Research Parkway
Meriden CT

The forum will focus on issues of concern to older residents in Connecticut including Social Security, Health Care Reform, Medicare, Long-Term Care, Retirement Security, Transportation, Energy, Housing and Political Gridlock.  Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Susan Raff will moderate.
