You just never know what "spring" cleaning will turn up. Our family has been Spring cleaning for the last 2 months. One daughter gave me a 9 hole cubby with 3 doors. I put that in the entryway to hold shoes ( I don't allow shoes on the carpets). I next got a lamp (with a porous finish) from a friend. That went into the living room. I found curtains and a coverlet for my bedroom that I bought in 2006, never used, and have carried it around the country in the hopes that I would find the perfect shade of pumpkin paint to match it to paint 1 contrasting wall.
Well about a month ago Ace Hardware was giving away a pint of paint for their new line of paint. So I went there and lo and behold I found my perfect pumpkin color. OK so what am I going to do with a pint of paint? Is it enough to paint that one wall (the predominant color in the whole house is a coffee color) in my bedroom. Better not chance it. Above that cubby is a print that has that pumpkin color (in subtle places) Let's paint the cubby!!! Perfect and it makes that color in the print pop out. Next the living room has hunter green furniture and I have a multi colored throw with the different shades of pumpkin Let's paint the lamp!!! Perfect!!!
The following week Ace Hardware was giving away another pint of paint to introduce their new line of paint. I still had a little left over from the other can. I went there and got another pint of pumpkin (actually it's called Crouching Tiger), painted that 1 bedroom wall, put up those curtains and put the coverlet on the bed. Dramatic!!!! Believe it or not they had the same deal for the following Saturday. Well I'm not going to turn down anything that is free and especially if I can use it. My youngest daughter's room has accents of a pewter blue shade. They had the perfect matching blue. We painted 1 of her walls. Beautiful!!!
All in all I now have newly decorated rooms that didn't cost anyone a cent. Even the items needed to paint I had hanging around. Now I would upload pictures but A) I have an old cell phone (given to me by my son-in-law) it doesn't have a camera. B) even if it did I wouldn't know where to begin to put pictures on here. I'm not very tech savvy And I so wish I could because I am so proud of how all my "decorating" turned out.
Also in the fall my middle daughter gave my grandson a sweater chest and one of those children's drawers/closet/entertainment centers. My youngest daughter (her and my grandson live with me) painted the furniture black with gray tops and red handles. He already had grey, black and white bed set and black and red curtains. Newly decorated room at no costs. Priceless.
