In Response to Week #3 "Cheap Regrets" Challenge: ENTER HERE by JeffYeager
I do not have any experiences with door-to-door salespeople, maybe because I live in the country, but Marshadee2001’s post reminded me of my experiences with home party sales. I have regrets about purchases I have made at home parties – crystal, jewelry, health/beauty, home interior, plastic food containers, and so on. Earlier in my life I couldn’t say no to the invitations. The hostess would say, come and enjoy yourself, you don’t have to buy anything. Then I wasn’t strong enough not to buy something because of pressure by the consultant, the hostess and/or the other party goers. I often bought something I didn’t need, usually one the lowest priced offerings of the vendor. In my guilt I would try to incorporate the purchase into my life style, but I continued to have bad feelings about the item because I didn't feel as if I got good value. I haven’t been to a party in years even though I am regularly invited. I am now self confident to say no and not be sheepish about stating I have no need for the products. I use ‘need’ as my measure not ‘want’.
