AARP The Magazine Names New Editor

Steve Slon has been appointed editor of AARP The Magazine, by Hugh Delehanty, editor in chief of AARP Publications. Slon, who has served as deputy editor since November 2000, will oversee the day-to-day operation of the publication, the largest circulation magazine in the country with a guaranteed rate base of 21.5 million.

Before joining AARP, Slon was editor in chief of Success magazine, where he successfully repositioned the publication and increased newsstand sales. Prior, he was managing editor of Men's Health and helped transform it into one of the nation's fastest-growing magazines. In addition, he has written extensively for Reader's Digest, Self, Playboy and other magazines.

"Steve is an inspired editor who has played a key role in shaping the editorial voice of the magazine and made it a must-read for our members," said Delehanty. "He has the passion, creativity and gut-level knowledge of our audience to lift the magazine to new heights. I can't wait to see what happens next."

Staffers at the magazine website—www.aarpmagazine.org—are also taking on new responsibilities. Web Editor Rick Bowers has been named director of new product development and digital media. In this expanded role, Bowers will be responsible for forging strategic alliances with new publishing partners. Web Managing Editor Beth Rhodes has been promoted to executive producer, and Deputy Web Editor Robert Long has been promoted to associate web editor.
