AARP HITS ONE MILLION FANS ON ITS OFFICIAL FACEBOOK PAGE
WASHINGTON (December 19, 2012) — AARP today announced that it has surpassed one million fans on its official Facebook page, which has played a key role in growing its online presence. Facebook is becoming increasingly more relevant to the older media consumer, with 47.7 million adults 50+ visiting the website in October of this year alone.*
“The 50+ age group is a passionate and engaged community and now, more than a million AARP fans are following us on Facebook,” said Kevin Donnellan, EVP & Chief Communications Officer, AARP. “The AARP Facebook page represents a digital hub for this age group and we are happy to see our page serving so many.”
Facebook is just one area of AARP’s digital presence that is experiencing significant growth. AARP’s reach through social media exceeded 1 billion accounts in the first ten months of this year (a 678% increase over the same period in 2011). The organization’s website www.aarp.org is also up 42% year over year in unique visitors and recorded over 1.2 million registrations in 2012. Earlier this year, AARP launched a customized YouTube destination that streamlines the user experience and better organizes the more than 2,000 videos available for site visitors. In 2013, AARP will continue to expand its online content offerings by developing premium original programming for the AARP YouTube channel in the form of weekly series focusing on the areas of money, health and beauty, technology and travel.
