AARP Opens Employee Health Plans to Adult Children
Association’s employees can enroll children up to age 26, six months ahead of national deadline
WASHINGTON — AARP, the nation’s largest organization for Americans 50-plus, today announced its employees can begin enrolling their eligible adult children under their employee health plans beginning immediately. Under the new health care law, children up to age 26 can be added to most health plans at the beginning of their next plan year. AARP’s own employee plans will beat that deadline by six months. A statement from AARP CEO A. Barry Rand follows:
“We know the struggle to find affordable health insurance crosses all generations, including younger people who may not yet have the benefit of job-based coverage. That’s why we’re opening our employee health plans to eligible children up to age 26—a full six months ahead of the deadline set by the health care law. In this tough economy, when Americans of all ages are fighting to make ends meet, we hope other employers will join us to quickly implement this important new benefit.”
