AARP Applauds Effort to Save Lives with Better Patient Safety
HHS initiative could improve care while reducing health care costs
WASHINGTON—AARP Executive Vice President Nancy LeaMond released this statement following today’s announcement of the Partnership for Patients by the Department of Health and Human Services. The Partnership combines the resources of hospitals, physicians, consumers and HHS to stop the millions of preventable complications that impact patients and their families and cost our health care system billions of dollars each year. LeaMond’s statement follows:
“We applaud HHS and the nation’s hospitals, health care providers and consumers for coming together to stop the preventable injuries and complications that cost our country thousands of lives and billions of dollars each year. People who find themselves in the hospital have enough to worry about without the concern that a mistake could bring further harm.
“This initiative will help give patients and their families peace of mind about their care so they can focus on getting better.
“We look forward to working with HHS and health care providers to find innovative ways to improve safety for our members and all Americans as we strive to keep people healthier and reduce health care costs throughout the system.”
