Jeff Gordon and Drive to End Hunger Find Victory at Phoenix
$10,000 donation to Phoenix food bank will provide 70,000 meals to local seniors
PHOENIX--AARP Foundation President Jo Ann Jenkins issued this statement following today's win at Phoenix International Raceway by Jeff Gordon behind the wheel of the No. 24 Drive to End Hunger Chevrolet:
"We're thrilled to see the continued support from race fans as we work to raise awareness around the alarming issue of senior hunger. Today's victory by Jeff and the Drive to End Hunger car will help generate the attention we need to solve this crisis. One in seven seniors here in Arizona is battling hunger, but the NASCAR community came together this weekend to help make a real difference. We congratulate Jeff on his commanding win, and we look forward to seeing the fans at our next race in Fontana."
Earlier this weekend, AARP Foundation made a $10,000 donation to St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance in Phoenix on behalf of Drive to End Hunger. The food bank can feed seven hungry seniors for every one dollar donated.
Race fans and the public can donate to Drive to End Hunger by visiting DriveToEndHunger.org or texting "hunger" to 50555. Message and data rates may apply. You will receive two confirmation texts.
