On October 31, AARP and the National Housing Conference (NHC) co-hosted “Building Livable Communities for All Generations,” an in-person and online event to discuss the importance of creating communities that are safe, accessible, and inclusive for all ages and backgrounds.

At the event, AARP unveiled its latest iteration of the AARP Livability Index™ platform, an interactive resource that evaluates livability for neighborhoods across the United States. Attendees discovered the key components that make a community truly livable, from safe and walkable streets to age-friendly housing, accessible transportation options, and access to essential services. They learned from experts and community leaders about innovative strategies and best practices that can transform neighborhoods, towns, and cities into thriving, inclusive spaces where everyone can flourish.

The forum delved deep into the principles of livable communities, exploring how they enhance personal independence, allow individuals to age comfortably and safely in their homes, and provide opportunities for all residents, regardless of background and ability, to engage fully in civic, economic, and social life.

The forum was held virtually and in-person on Tuesday, October 31 from 11:30am - 4pm EDT at the National Press Building in Washington DC. Watch the event on the NHC website.
