Medical/Nursing Task Tutorials for Family Caregivers

The “How-To” videos and resource guides for family caregivers are on specific medical/nursing tasks – including preparing special diets, managing incontinence, wound care, mobility, and managing medications. The videos and resource guides, many of which are available in both English and Spanish, are free of charge.

Preparing for a Hospital Stay

Funded by The John A. Hartford Foundation, this video series seeks to provide family caregivers an understanding of what to expect before, during, and after a hospital stay. It also shares how the 4Ms of age-friendly care — What Matters, Medication, Mentation, and Mobility — relates to the older adult they care for. This series was developed by Home Alone Alliance members—the AARP Public Policy Institute and the Rush Center for Excellence in Aging.

Funded by RRF Foundation for Aging, this video series seeks to provide family caregivers, who are operating specialized medical equipment, with simple, concrete instruction and important safety tips. These videos not only seek to help family caregivers but to also teach nurses and nursing students ways in which they can role-model them and work with families in very meaningful ways that support the family member performing the difficult task. Part One and Part Two of the series was developed by Alliance members—the AARP Public Policy Institute and the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC, Davis. Part Two was funded by Centene Charitable Foundation.
