Video: Creating a Safe Way to Cross

Learn about a 2025 AARP Community Challenge project in Greensboro, North Carolina

LOCATION: Greensboro, North Carolina

GRANTEE: City of Greensboro Planning Department

generic-video-poster

Despite heavy foot traffic from residents who rely on walking and transit, a busy roadway lacked a safe way for pedestrians to cross. Using AARP Community Challenge funding, including a grant from Toyota Motor North America, the city conducted a walk audit and then implemented improvements based on the results. The road now has a crosswalk and pedestrian refuge median, both of which were directly informed by the needs of local users.
